Completed a degree in Media Production at the tender young age of 43 Started the degree in 2001 with Cardiff University and Bridgend College, Wales, did two years, took a break (have a family and financial commitments as do most 'mature' students) and completed at a time when unable to work through serious illness….a great alternative to thumb twiddling, becoming a total hypochondriac or waiting for the next giro!
Carol will Talk about one of the projects undertaken in the final year with Bournemouth University and Weymouth College Filming at Cricket St.Thomas, Chard, with a scout group, two energetic cameramen, a very helpful education officer and some wonderful animals!

Penny’s interest in Egypt began at an early age, with an interest in the historical side of Egyptology. She has travelled throughout Egypt, to Luxor, Karnack, Thebes West Bank, Cairo, Dendera, Abydos, Abu Simbel, Esna and Aswan. She began by bringing items such as perfume bottles, galibayas, ornaments, Arabian music and belly dancing clothes back from Egypt as presents for, or requests by friends. This developed into a travelling bazaar, whereby the bazaar/ stall could be brought to your event. She also purchased a 2 bedroom holiday apartment in Luxor, which can be rented by people visiting Egypt. Penny also lectures in ‘Real Life in Egypt’, and is a member of a number of Egyptology Societies, both local and national. You can combine Penny’s knowledge of Egypt and belly dancing with a tailor-made Belly dancing holiday. Penny’s daughter Carla has developed an interest and a real talent in belly dancing. You can hire her to appear at an event. She has trained with a number of Egyptian and British dancers and performers, and has appeared solo at haflas and workshops throughout Britain, and has performed in Luxor, Egypt too.

‘Wendy Buonaventura is quite literally a living legend in Arabic dance, and has taken the art form to audiences worldwide with her innovative and beautiful stage shows.’- Morag Deyes (Director, Edinburgh Dancebase)
Wendy has worked as writer, choreographer and performer to critical acclaim. She was the first to pioneer Middle Eastern dance as a theatre art in the West, and many of today’s best-known teachers began their dance life with her. Her book SERPENT OF THE NILE; WOMEN & DANCE IN THE ARAB WORLD has become a classic work, and has been translated into French, German & Russian.
Her performance work uses text with dance/movement across cultures, exploreing cultural myths and stereotypes of female sexuality. Her lyrical, challenging theatre pieces have attracted controversy and she has been the subject of the 30 minute HTV documentary, MAKING MIMI.
She has written and presented for BBC Radio 4 and has a wide readership for her books about womens’ lives. Her most recent book is I PUT A SPELL ON YOU: Dancing Women from Salome to Madonna. From this book has come a one-woman show and a dance film (Arts Council sponsored): AND GOD CREATED DEVIL-WOMAN. A sequence from this film – performed live – is part of the SIROCCO theatre programme at the Merlin Theatre on Saturday evening.
